Join Us to Create Public Art! The public is invited to help create a mosaic that, when complete, will be installed inside the Dr. Percy and Lileah Harris Building. This event will be held outdoors under the overhang at the Harris Building. The artists will provide all materials needed to create the mosaics and they will be onsite to guide people and offer help. This is a family friendly event, and children are welcome to participate with adult supervision.
Event Details: Friday, July 30 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. and Saturday, July 31 from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Dr. Percy and Lileah Harris Building, 1020 6th St. SE in Cedar Rapids.

Local Option Sales Tax Extension Vote Will be on November Ballot Voters in unincorporated Linn County and the cities of Cedar Rapids, Hiawatha, Fairfax, Marion, Robins, and the portion of Walford located in Linn County will vote Nov. 2, 2021, on whether to extend the current one percent local option sales and services tax when it expires in 2024. If passed, the extension will begin July 1, 2024 and will end June 30, 2034. Each jurisdiction presents specific uses for the revenue generated by a local option sales tax. Learn how Linn County would continue to use the LOST revenue on behalf of Linn County residents.

Celebrating the ADA The Americans with Disabilities Act was signed into law 31 years ago, on July 26, 1990, by President George H. W. Bush to ensure the civil rights of people with disabilities. Over the past 31 years, the ADA has expanded opportunities for Americans with disabilities by reducing barriers, changing perceptions, and increasing full participation in community life. To mark this occasion, the Linn County Board of Supervisors proclaimed Friday, July 30, 2021 the 31st anniversary celebration day of the American with Disabilities Act (ADA) in Linn County and reaffirmed Linn County’s commitment to work toward the full inclusion of people with disabilities in community life. A celebration event will be held Friday, July 30 at Veterans Memorial Stadium.

COVID-19 Vaccine Update Linn County Public Health reports that as of July 26, 2021, 52.9 percent of ALL Linn County residents are fully vaccinated against COVID-19. When looking only at the eligible population (residents age 12 and older), the percentage of Linn County residents fully vaccinated against COVID-19 increases to 62.4 percent. Board of Supervisors Meeting Recap The following is a recap from the Linn County Board of Supervisors meetings the week of July 23-30, 2021. The Board of Supervisors:
- Proclaimed Friday, July 30, 2021 the 31st anniversary celebration of the American with Disabilities Act (ADA) in Linn County and reaffirmed Linn County’s commitment to work toward the full inclusion of people with disabilities in community life
- Held a public hearing to establish a Secondary Road Assessment District to improve Wayside Circle with a two-inch asphalt overlay for the entire length of Wayside Circle and four-inch patching in three locations and driveway transitions involving concrete driveway panel removal and replacement at a cost of $118,185. The assessment district includes Blair Ridge Estates Addition lots 1-6 and lots 9-16 and Blair Ridge Estates 2nd Addition lots 1-2.
- Held an elected officials and department head meeting and received updates on training programs and FMLA benefits from Human Resources
- Received updates from the following departments: Linn County Community Services, Public Health, Soil Conservation, Veterans Affairs, Information Technology, and Sustainability
- Approved a resolution setting a public hearing on August 2, 2021 at 11 a.m. to determine whether Linn County will convey to Tom A. and Kimberly J. Sindelar, whatever interest Linn County may have in vacated right-of-way along a portion of Boy Scouts Road in section 17 described as Parcel A, Plat of Survey No. 2548
- Approved resolution for a Temporary Use Permit, Case JTU21-0010, requesting permission to operate a RAGBRAI beer sales event, located at 3463 Central City Road, Center Point, Iowa
- Approved resolution for a final plat for Hillview Addition, case JF21-0011
- Authorized Chair to electronically sign the annual Equitable Sharing Agreement and Certification between the Linn County Sheriff’s Office and Departments of Justice and Treasury ending June 30, 2021
- Authorized Chair to sign a contract between Linn County Child Development Center and Hawkeye Area Community Action Program (HACAP) on behalf of Linn County Community Services Child & Youth Development Center for a Family Support Worker to support dually eligible enrolled children effective September 1, 2021 through August 31, 2022 in the amount of $29.56 per hour
- Authorized Chair to sign contract LPHS_LCCS_2022 between Linn County Community Services – Home Health and Linn County Board of Health – Public Health to provide home health services for Linn County residents in need for the period of July 1, 2021 to June 30, 2022 in the amount of $216,701
- Authorized Chair to sign a contract with Waypoint Services to administer emergency rent assistance at the Linn County Courthouse
- Approved a purchase order to Welter Storage Equipment Co. in the amount of $6,358 to purchase office task chairs for the Secondary Road Department
- Held a public hearing on the Urban Revitalization Plan Amendment
- Approved a resolution amending the Linn County Urban Revitalization Plan for the Linn County Urban Revitalization Area
- Approved a resolution amending the Linn County Urban Renewal Plan for the Linn County Urban Renewal Area
- Authorized inclusion of an area outside the City of Cedar Rapids corporate limits to be in the City of Cedar Rapids Commerce Park Urban Renewal Area of Operation to make road and related improvements in connection with proposed development projects (at the request of the City of Cedar Rapids)
- Authorized inclusion of an area outside the City of Cedar Rapids corporate limits to be in the City of Cedar Rapids American Prairie Urban Renewal Area of Operation to make road and related improvements in connection with proposed development projects (at the request of the City of Cedar Rapids)
- Discussed revisions to Board of Supervisors policy OP-19, Access to Secondary Roads
