Linn County Releases First Greenhouse Gas Inventory

Linn County is pleased to announce it has released the County’s first greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions inventory and now joins the hundreds of other local governments that have completed their GHG gas inventories. 

The report, prepared by the Linn County Office of Sustainability with assistance from International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives - Local Governments for Sustainability USA, is the first step in documenting emission levels and sources of GHG emissions in Linn County and creating a climate action plan to reduce GHG emissions locally.

American Rescue Plan Act

One ARPA Public Engagement Forum Remaining

Linn County will host its final scheduled public engagement forum regarding Linn County’s allocation of the American Rescue Plan Act funding from the federal government on Thursday, August 26 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Lynn Dunn Memorial Building on the Linn County Fairgrounds, 201 Central City Road, Central City.

The forums are designed to explain the purpose of the American Rescue Plan Act and help identify broad community priorities on the best use of the American Rescue Plan Act funding in Linn County. The format includes a presentation by County staff, a Q&A session, and the opportunity for public input.

Emergency Rental Assistance Program

Emergency Rental Assistance Available for Eligible Linn County Residents

Linn County, with assistance from Waypoint and HACAP, is administering rent and utility assistance through the federal Emergency Rental Assistance Program (ERAP) to residents of Linn County. This program may provide eligible residents with up to 18 months of rent and/or utility assistance. Applicants must be able to provide documentation or self-certify experiencing a financial hardship in their household that has affected their ability to pay rent.

Garden Bridge Outreach Program

Linn County Sustainability Hosting Interactive Horticulture Therapy Classes

Linn County Sustainability is hosting interactive horticulture therapy classes this month called Garden Bridge Outreach. The classes were developed by Linn County Food Systems Council member Scott Koepke to show the therapeutic benefits of gardening.

Program participants will learn about life skills, such as hope, resilience, patience, balance, and peace while observing or participating in garden maintenance (watering, weeding, and harvesting). Samples of vegetables will be provided.

The final class will be held August 28 from 10 a.m.-noon in the gymnasium at the Linn County Fillmore Building, 520 11th St. NW in Cedar Rapids. The content of each class will be same. Attendance will be capped a 20 people per class, so registration is encouraged.

Property Taxes Due September 1

The semiannual installment of property and mobile home tax statements will be arriving in mailboxes soon. The deadline to pay the first half of property taxes without penalty is September 30, 2021. A penalty of one and one half percent will attach to late payments beginning October 1, 2021. 

Property taxes can be paid online, by mail, via drop box, in person, or by phone. Learn more about each payment option.

Special Election: North Linn Community School District

The North Linn Community School District has called a special election for September 14, 2021. The North Linn Community School District has residents in four counties. According to Iowa law, Buchanan and Delaware County voters will vote in their respective counties. Linn and Benton County voters will vote in Linn County. Early, in-person absentee voting begins Wednesday, August 25 for Linn and Benton County voters at the Linn County Auditor’s Office, located at 935 2nd St. SW in Cedar Rapids. Voting is available from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. each weekday through Monday, September 13 (with the exception of Labor Day, Monday, September 6).

Face Covering Required Inside County Buidings

Mask Requirement Reinstated Inside Linn County Facilities

Mask are once again be required at all indoor County facilities for employees and visitors, regardless of vaccination status. COVID-19 cases are rising in our community, fueled by the Delta variant. The Delta variant is more contagious than previous variants.

Linn County is requiring masks in County-owned facilities to help reduce the spread of COVID-19 and to protect public health during this global pandemic. Linn County will make disposable face coverings available for the public at each County building.
