ICYMI: Linn County Releases FY21 Annual Report Linn County has released its fiscal year 2021 Popular Annual Financial Report (PAFR). The report is part of Linn County’s ongoing commitment to keep residents informed about how taxpayer dollars are used to fund programs and services in an easy-to-read format. In addition to providing easy to understand financial information, the report demonstrates the vital role of county government by highlighting some of Linn County’s notable accomplishments and challenges of the past year. This year’s report centers on resiliency, sustainability, and helping people.

Nick Maybanks Sworn in as County Attorney Nick Maybanks was sworn in as Linn County Attorney on Jan. 4, 2022 following the retirement of Jerry Vander Sanden and the appointment by the Linn County Board of Supervisors. Maybanks will fulfill the remainder of Vander Sanden’s term, which expires at the end of 2022. Maybanks has served as an attorney in the office since 2000 and was appointed First Assistant Linn County Attorney by Vander Sanden in 2009. Maybanks appointed Monica Slaughter as First Assistant Linn County Attorney and Jordan Schier as head of the criminal division.

Linn County Public Health Awarded $40,000 from Delta Dental of Iowa Foundation Linn County Public Health received a $40,000 Community Change Grant from Delta Dental of Iowa Foundation to support the work of My Care Community. My Care Community is a network of more than 35 health care and social service providers who work together to connect people to resources they need to be healthy, safe, and well. Linn County Conservation Teams with Green Iowa AmeriCorps for Book Drive Linn County Conservation is proud to partner with Green Iowa AmeriCorps and other community organizations for a book drive now through Jan. 16. Books are being collected to distribute back into the community for residents who may have limited access to books and other educational materials. Learn more about the book drive and where you can drop off or receive donated books. Linn County is a host site for two members from Green Iowa AmeriCorps.

Board of Supervisors Meeting Recap The following is a recap from the Linn County Board of Supervisors meetings the week of Jan. 1-7, 2022. The Board of Supervisors:
- Appointed Supervisor Ben Rogers as Board Chair and Supervisor Louie Zumbach as Vice Chair for 2022
- Designated official County newspapers as follows: The Gazette Company, The Linn News, and The Sun
- Approved a resolution appointing Nick Maybanks to fill the vacant Linn County Attorney position following the retirement of Jerry Vander Sanden
- Authorized the County Auditor and County Treasurer to destroy certain records that are more than 10 years old
- Authorized the County Auditor to issue warrants when the Board of Supervisors is not in session for purposes provided for in Section 331.506, Code of Iowa, and that all bills paid under said Section shall be passed upon by the Board of Supervisors at the first meeting following such payments
- Reviewed proposed fiscal year 2023 budget for the following County departments: Treasurer
- Held a public hearing and first and second consideration on an ordinance amending the Code of Ordinances, Linn County, Iowa by amending provisions in Chapter 12, Fire Code of the Linn County Code of Ordinances. (Updating Building, Fire, Plumbing, and Mechanical codes to the 2021 versions with amendments)
- Held a public hearing and first and second consideration on an ordinance amending the Code of Ordinances, Linn County, Iowa by amending provisions in Chapter 105, Articles II, IV, & V of the Linn County Code of Ordinances. (Updating Building, Fire, Plumbing, and Mechanical codes to the 2021 versions with amendments)
- Held first and second consideration and reading of Linn County public ordinance establishing the various voting precincts in Linn County, Iowa and defining the boundaries and listing of the populations thereof pursuant to the Code of Iowa
- Approved resolution to award contract for LOST-BRIDGE 1053(22), bridge replacement on Bertram Road over Indian Creek, to Peterson Contractors Inc. in the amount of $2,425,608.45
- Approved resolution to award contract for L-BRIDGE 1920(22), bridge replacement on Hollenbeck Road over Bear Creek, to Taylor Construction, Inc. in the amount of $1,362,266.58
- Approved a 28E agreement with the City of Fairfax for a PCC overlay, pavement markings and replace existing CMP culvert and concrete box culvert on shared portions of Lefebure Road and Fairfax Road
- Approved and authorized Chair to sign the 2021 Weed Commissioner’s Report
- Approved and authorized Chair to sign the 2022 County Weed Commissioner Certification Form
- Approved purchase order $66,997 to Pritchards Lake Chevrolet for a 2021 Ford Transit for Options
- Approved purchase order for $22,740 to McGrath Chevyland for a 2022 Chevrolet Malibu for Linn County Community Services
- Approved a contract amendment between Linn County and Waypoint Services to provide assistance with completing the application and screening clients for the Linn County Emergency Rent Assistance program effective August 16, 2021 to August 16, 2023
- Approved a contract amendment between Linn County and Hawkeye Area Community Action Program (HACAP) to process applications and make assistance awards to Linn County residents for the Linn County Emergency Rent Assistance program effective August 16, 2021 to August 16, 2023
- Approved a contract between Linn County and Willis Dady Homeless Services to provide housing stability services at the Linn County Overflow Shelter through the shelters’ 2021-2022 operation using Emergency Rent Assistance (ERA) funds
