Temporary Redistricting Commission Sets Public Hearing for New Supervisor Districts Map The Linn County Temporary Redistricting Commission scheduled a public hearing to review a preliminary proposed Linn County supervisor district map on Feb. 8, 2022, at 4 p.m., at the Jean Oxley Linn County Public Service Center. The Legislative Services Agency created the draft map per Iowa law. During the public hearing, the public can comment on the preliminary proposed Linn County supervisor redistricting map submitted by the Legislative Services Agency or present alternative plans of their own. Redistricting is the process of redrawing boundaries for political districts in the United States and is required by state law to account for population changes every 10 years following the federal decennial census to ensure equal representation. Linn County Now Accepting Historic Preservation Grant Applications The Linn County Historic Preservation Commission is now accepting grant applications from non-profit organizations for its annual historic preservation grant program. Applications are due April 1, 2022, by 5 p.m. On Saturday, March 5, 2022, the Historic Preservation Commission will host its annual grant workshop for those interested in learning about the preservation grant program or who have questions about their project. Bald Eagle Shot in Cedar Rapids, DNR Looking for Person Responsible The Linn County Sheriff’s Office reported the Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is asking for help to identify the person responsible for shooting a bald eagle that was discovered in southeast Cedar Rapids on Jan. 9, 2022. The DNR responded to a report of an injured bald eagle along the Cedar River near the Sac and Fox trail. The raptor was captured and taken to a local wildlife rehabilitator where the gunshot wound was discovered during examination. Due to the severity of the eagle’s injuries, it had to be euthanized. Anyone with information is urged to call or email State Conservation Officer Travis Graves at 319-350-2863 or [email protected] or call the Turn In Poachers (TIP) hotline at 1-800-532-2020. Callers to the TIP line may be eligible for a reward. Callers can remain anonymous. Callers can also contact Linn County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-CS-CRIME. Bald eagles are protected by law.

Board of Supervisors Meeting Recap The following is a recap from the Linn County Board of Supervisors meetings the week of Jan. 28-Feb. 4, 2022. The Board of Supervisors:
- Met with and received updates from the following elected officials: Sheriff Brian Gardner, County Attorney Nick Maybanks, Treasurer Sharon Gonzalez, and Auditor Joel Miller
- Discussed proposed Fiscal Year 2023 budgets
- Held a public hearing and first and second consideration for rezoning case JR22-0001, request to rezone property located in the 8000 Block of C Ave, 26-84-07, from AG (Agricultural) district to USR (Urban Services Residential) district, approximately 4.5 acres, Midwest Development Co., owners
- Received and placed on file the Sheriff’s quarterly report for July1 to Sept. 30, 2021 for the amount of $1,528,301
- Received and placed on file the Sheriff’s quarterly report for Oct. 1 to Dec. 31, 2021 for the amount of $1,472,914
- Approved a resolution suspending taxes for one (1) Linn County resident as they are unable to contribute to the public revenue by reason of age, infirmity or both, pursuant to Code of Iowa, Section 427.8
- Approved a resolution to award a contract for pavement markings on various roads in Linn County, to LL Pelling Co., Inc. in the amount of $138,438
- Approved a resolution to award contract for project M-PROFILE GRIND(22), Profile diamond grinding on 10th St. from Cimarron Drive north to County Home Road, to West Fork LLC, in the amount of $170,745.75
- Approved a sixth amendment to the Relative Wraparound Fund Contract between the Iowa Department of Human Services and Linn County effective Feb. 14, 2022
- Held a public hearing for the consideration of a long-term 20-year real estate lease between Linn County Conservation, Linn County, and Feed Iowa First for the exclusive use of approximately 17 acres legally described as Outlot A, Squaw Creek Ridge Second Addition to Linn County, Iowa.
- Held a closed session pursuant to Iowa Code Section 21.5(1)(c) to discuss pending litigation
- Held a closed session pursuant to Iowa Code Section 21.5(1)(j) to discuss the purchase or sale of real estate
