Linn County Historic Preservation Commission Preservation Grant Window Now Open

The Linn County Historic Preservation Commission is now accepting grant applications from non-profit organizations for its annual Historic Preservation Grant Program. Application information is available on Linn County’s website. There is $28,800 in grant funding available this year.

Applicants must be a non-profit organization located in Linn County. Individuals are not eligible. Completed applications are due April 1, 2022, by 5 p.m. This is a competitive grant program.

Residents Appointed to Sustainability & Resiliency Committee

Residents Appointed to Newly Formed Linn County Sustainability & Resiliency Advisory Committee

The Linn County Board of Supervisors appointed 14 Linn County residents to serve on the newly established Linn County Sustainability & Resiliency Advisory Committee.

The Advisory Committee will help complete an annual greenhouse gas inventory for Linn County with support from the Linn County Office of Sustainability and the International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives. The greenhouse gas inventory will help Linn County review and monitor progress toward the goals and objectives of Linn County’s climate resolutions.

Linn County to Hold Public Hearing on Maximum Property Tax Levy for Fiscal Year 2023

The Linn County Board of Supervisors will hold a public hearing on March 2, 2022 at 11 a.m., to set the total maximum property tax levy for the fiscal year 2023 budget. The public hearing will be held at the Linn County Public Service Center, 935 Second St. SW in Cedar Rapids.

Linn County Attorney’s Office Releases Review of its 2021 Marijuana Diversion Program

The Linn County Attorney’s Office has released a review of the marijuana diversion program that it launched on Jan. 1, 2021. The program was designed for first-time offenders found in possession of a user-quantity amount of marijuana. Conviction for a marijuana offense may have serious and lasting consequences for first-time offenders’ ability to obtain housing and employment, access higher education, as well as other negative short and long-term financial consequences. The abuse of marijuana also presents potential dangers. The marijuana diversion program was created to address and balance these concerns.

Linn County Secondary Road Department Releases 2022 Maintenance Plan and Five-Year Construction Plan

The Linn County Secondary Road Department has released its maintenance plan for 2022 and the five-year construction plan for fiscal years 2023-2027. The plans outline the department’s focus on repairing and rebuilding bridges, maintaining the condition of the paved road network, improving the condition of the County’s 765+ miles of rock roads, performing preventative maintenance, and how projects are prioritized.

Second Installment of Property Taxes Due March 31

The second installment of property and mobile home taxes in Linn County is due by March 31, 2022. Late fees of one and one half percent will attach to late payments beginning April 1.

Linn County Board of Supervisors Awards $80,000 in Witwer Trust Grants

The Linn County Board of Supervisors has awarded $80,000 in grants from the Linn County Board of Supervisors Witwer Trust Fund to 19 non-profit organizations whose work benefits Linn County residents. The recipients were selected through an annual competitive grant process that began in November. The Board of Supervisors received more than $286,000 in grant requests with $80,000 in available funds.

Linn County Supervisors and Temporary Redistricting Commission Approve New Redistricting Map

The Linn County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved a new Linn County supervisor districts map (called Supervisor District Map Plan 1) as part of the required redistricting process. Redistricting is the process of redrawing boundaries for political districts in the United States and is required by law to account for population changes every 10 years following the federal decennial census to ensure equal representation. The map was drawn by the Legislative Services Agency, per Iowa law.
