The Center is now open seven days a week and has a sobering unit for those in need. No appointment is necessary.

The Sheriff’s Office is Hiring
The Linn County Sheriff’s Office is now accepting applications online for the position of Deputy Sheriff. Applications must be submitted by 5 p.m. on Sunday, May 8. Those who successfully submit applications will be required to attend a physical fitness and written exam on Saturday, May 21 at 8 a.m. at the Clark Racquet Center, Coe College.

Second Suspect Arrested in Connection with Taboo Night Club Shooting The Linn County Attorney’s Office, in cooperation with the Cedar Rapids Police Department, filed criminal charges against a second person in the mass shooting that occurred on April 10, 2022, at the Taboo nightclub, 415 3rd St. SE, Cedar Rapids, Linn County, Iowa. Although two arrests have been made, the case remains under active investigation. The Linn County Attorney’s Office encourages all persons who have information to offer about the events of April 10, 2022, to come forward and to cooperate with the Cedar Rapids Police Department.

Board of Supervisors Meeting Recap The following is a recap from the Linn County Board of Supervisors meetings the week of April 15-22, 2022. The Board of Supervisors:
- Met with and received updates from the following departments: Communications, Facilities, Planning & Development, Purchasing, and Risk Management
- Discussed and formally established the Linn County Sustainability Department
- Discussed and approved the sixth amended DCAT4-19-066 contract between Linn County Board of Supervisors and the Department of Human Services
- Authorized Chair to sign letter of commitment for ISU's Science to Achieve Results (STAR) Program: Drivers and Environmental Impacts of Energy Transitions in Underserved Communities, EPA-G2022-STAR-F1 grant application
- Authorized Chair to sign, retroactive to April 14, 2022, a letter to Congresswoman Ashley Hinson in support of Mercy Medical Center’s request for federal community project funding for its enhanced infection control project
- Approved Statement of Election Costs for the City of Palo and the Center Point-Urbana Community School District
- Received and placed on file Auditor’s Quarterly Report for the quarter ending 3/31/22 in the amount of $389,791.57. Total Auditor transfer fees deposited by Recorder with the County Treasurer in the amount of $11,370
- Received and placed on file the Recorder’s Quarterly Report for January 1 through March 31, 2022
- Approved a resolution awarding a contract for project LOST-BRIDGE 1036(22), a timber bridge replacement on Buffalo Valley Lane 1100’ west of Hills Mill Road, to Peterson Contractors, Inc., in the amount of $276,330.25
- Approved a resolution awarding a contract for project LOST-LEFEBURE RD(22), an 8” concrete overlay on Lefebure Road from Wright Brothers Blvd to Linn Street in the City of Fairfax, to Metro Pavers, Inc., in the amount of $2,240.189.25
- Approved a resolution authorizing the sale of Linn County Secondary Road Department surplus equipment and vehicles at www.publicsurplus.com
- Approved a resolution appointing Bradley J. Ketels, P.E., County Engineer, Garret A. Reddish, P.E., Assistant County Engineer and Curtis A. Logan, P.E., Assistant County Engineer, to serve in the capacity of Linn County Engineer and perform all duties of the Linn County Engineer
- Rejected all bids for project L-RCB 1739(22) on Maple Grove Road due to unexpected higher costs and budget constraints
- Awarded bid and approved purchase order for culverts to Illowa Culvert & Supply Co. in the amount of $17,951.20 for the Secondary Road Department
