Fiscal Year 2023 Budget in Brief Linn County’s 2023 fiscal year began July 1. Linn County's countywide levy rate decreased to $5.85 in fiscal year 2023 from $6.24 in 2022. Most taxpayers will pay approximately 10 percent less for their Linn County portion of taxes in fiscal year 2023 than they did in 2022, resulting in a decrease of $53 for a $150,000 home. Linn County Welcomes Summer Interns Each year, Linn County offers internship opportunities for students within its many different departments. Through hands-on work experience and professional development opportunities, the students gain insight into what it’s like working for a local government and see if public service could be a potential career for them after graduation. This year, Linn County is excited to welcome interns to the Board of Supervisors Office, the Secondary Road Department, Planning & Development, Human Resources, Linn County Sheriff’s Office, Sustainability, Juvenile Detention & Diversion Services, and Linn County Public Health. Roundabout at County Home Road and C Avenue Extension to Close for One Day on July 20 The roundabout at the intersection of County Home Road and C Avenue Extension will be closed to all traffic on Wednesday, July 20 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. to repair erosion and wheel ruts around the curbs on the roundabout. The project is expected to take one day. A detour will not be posted for this project, but electronic sign boards noting the closure will be in place starting July 15. Treasurer’s Office Closed to Walk-in Traffic Due to COVID-19 Related Absences The Linn County Treasurer’s Office closed to walk-in customers on July 14, 2022 due to a staffing shortage caused by COVID-19 positive cases and exposures. The office expects to reopen at 7:30 a.m. on Monday, July 18. The Treasurer’s Office will continue processing transactions received through the mail, drop box, and email and responding to the heavy volume of phone calls as staffing levels allow. A white drop box is available outside the Public Service Center (935 2nd Ave. SW, Cedar Rapids) to drop off payments, vehicle registration renewals, or other paperwork. Vehicle registration renewals and property taxes can be paid online at www.iowataxandtags.org.

Board of Supervisors Meeting Recap The following is a recap from the Linn County Board of Supervisors meetings the week of July 8-15, 2022. The Board of Supervisors:
Received a presentation and approved property tax levies for Fiscal Year 2022-2023 tax collections - Met with and received updates from the following departments: Finance & Budget and Secondary Road
- Discussed a proposed multi-year Linn County radio system evergreen maintenance contract with the Sheriff’s Office
- Discussed a renewal agreement between Linn County Juvenile Detention & Diversion Services and Johnson County to provide Johnson County with an Alternative Detention Initiative Program
- Discussed and approved JCN fiber relocation funding associated with the Bertram Bridge project
- Received a presentation by US Bank regarding Linn County investments
- Approved resolution for a final plat for Probasco First Addition
- Authorized Chair to sign a provider agreement between Linn County and Abbe Center for Community Mental Health for services at the Mental Health Access Center effective July 1, 2022 through June 30, 2023
- Authorized Chair to sign a provider agreement between Linn County and Foundation2 for services at the Mental Health Access Center effective July 1, 2022 through June 30, 2023
- Authorized Chair to sign a provider agreement between Linn County and Area Ambulance for services at the Mental Health Access Center effective July 1, 2022 through June 30, 2023
- Authorized Chair to sign a renewal agreement between Linn County Juvenile Detention & Diversion Services and Johnson County to provide Johnson County with an Alternative Detention Initiative Program effective July 1, 2022 through June 30, 223 for an amount not to exceed $75,000
- Authorized Chair to sign an American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) Subaward Agreement between Linn County and the City of Center Point for the Lewis Access Water Main Replacement Project for $200,000
- Authorized Chair to sign the Updated Provider Contract – Rate Sheet between Linn County Community Services-Options and the MHDS-East Central Region for the period of July 1, 2022 to June 30, 2023. The rates have been updated to reflect the 4.25 percent rate increases approved by the Iowa Legislature.
