Thank You Veterans!

Veterans Day is Nov. 11 and Linn County extends a warm thank you to all veterans for their service. Help us celebrate our veterans this Veterans Day by joining #OperationGreenLight for Veterans. Change one light bulb in the entryway of your home or business to a green bulb. By shining a green light, we aim to let veterans know that they are seen, appreciated, and supported.

Linn County Proudly Serves Veterans

Linn County’s Veteran Affairs Department provides free assistance to veterans and their families to help them receive the maximum benefits they have earned. These services include helping eligible veterans submit compensation and pension applications that result in millions of dollars in federal veterans benefits for eligible Linn County veterans each year. Appointments with Veteran Affairs staff are strongly encouraged.

General Election Results in Linn County

Unofficial election results from the Nov. 8 general election in Linn County are available on the Election Services website. There you can view a summary of countywide results or results by precinct. The general election results in Linn County will become official following the canvass by the Board of Supervisors. The canvass is scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 15 at the Linn County Public Service Center.

Public Invited to Budget Forum on Nov. 21

Planning is underway for Linn County’s fiscal year 2024 budget. The budget will be developed over the next two and a half months during a series of more than 20 public meetings between the Linn County Board of Supervisors, other Linn County elected officials, and department heads. Residents will have the opportunity to provide input and public comment on the budget during these upcoming public meetings. The annual Public Budget Forum will take place Nov. 21 at 5 p.m. at the Linn County Public Service Center, 935 Second St. SW in Cedar Rapids. Linn County residents and stakeholders are invited to share their input on Linn County’s FY24 budget during the budget forum.

Help Us Plant our Nuts!

Bring your friends and join Linn County Conservation on Saturday, Nov. 19 from 1-3 p.m. as we plant nuts and acorns to help restore the forest at Wanatee Park. The planting event will take place in a 15-acre area (located near Lakeside Road on the southwest side of the park) where debris from the 2020 derecho has been removed and some seedling trees have been planted. Participants will receive a canvas bag to keep (while supplies last) with nuts to plant. The process will be as simple as poking a hole in the ground with a stick, dropping in a nut, and stepping on it. Planting sticks will be available or volunteers can bring their own. Most Linn County Offices Closed for Veterans Day

Most Linn County governmental offices will be closed Friday, Nov. 11 in honor of Veterans Day. Regular business hours resume on Monday, Nov. 14. The following services will continue to operate:

• Juvenile Detention and Diversion Services
• Mental Health Access Center 
• Linn County LIFTS will be running reduced routes in Cedar Rapids (no rural service).
• The Sheriff’s Office will be closed; however, continuous operations will be available for routine and emergency responses, including the Patrol Division, Communications Division and the Correctional Center. In an emergency, always dial 911.

Board of Supervisors Meeting Recap

• Authorized Chair to sign a revised 28E agreement between Cedar Rapids Community School District and Linn County Child Development Center regarding statewide voluntary preschool program for four-year-old children running Monday through Friday from August 1, 2022, to June 1, 2023, with a revised total of $94,285.51
• Authorized Chair to sign a lease agreement between Linn County and Willis Dady Homeless Services for use of the Linn County-owned building at 1017 12th Ave. SW, Cedar Rapids as a winter overflow shelter
