Winter Overflow Shelter Opens Linn County and the City of Cedar Rapids, in partnership with Willis Dady Homeless Services, have opened a winter overflow homeless shelter to keep unsheltered residents safe from the cold weather this winter. The shelter opened Nov. 15 and will remain open as an overnight overflow location through the winter months. Willis Dady will operate and staff the shelter.

Ready for Winter Winter weather arrived this week and the Linn County Secondary Road Department was ready. Visit Linn County’s website to learn more about the snow routes, hours of operation for plow drivers, the snow and ice ordinance and policy, and sign up for updates on snow removal from Linn County’s secondary roads.

Blue Bridge Relocation An exciting project is underway on Bertram Road! Through a collaboration among Linn County’s Secondary Road Department, the Linn County Historic Preservation Commission, and the Indian Creek Nature Center, the 146-year-old blue Bertram Bridge will be relocated to the Nature Center and repurposed as part of their nature trail. The Bertram Bridge is scheduled for replacement in spring 2023. Sign up for updates on this project or watch the livestream camera.

Linn County Offices Closed for Thanksgiving Holiday Most Linn County governmental offices will be closed Thursday and Friday, Nov. 24 and 25 for the Thanksgiving holiday. Regular business hours resume on Monday, Nov. 28. The Linn County Public Health lab will be accepting water samples Monday and Tuesday, Nov. 21 and 22 only of the holiday week. Regular drop-off hours will resume on Monday, Nov. 28. The following services will continue to operate:
- Juvenile Detention and Diversion Services
- Mental Health Access Center
- Linn County LIFTS will be closed on Thanksgiving Day Nov. 24 but will operate reduced routes in Cedar Rapids, Hiawatha and Marion on Friday, Nov. 25 (no rural service).
- The Sheriff’s Office will be closed; however, continuous operations will be available for routine and emergency responses. This includes the Patrol Division, Communications Division and the Correctional Center. In an emergency, always dial 911.

Board of Supervisors Meeting Recap The following is a recap from the Linn County Board of Supervisors meetings the week of Nov. 10-18, 2022. The Board of Supervisors:
- Met with and received updates from the following departments: Planning & Development, Purchasing, and Risk Management
- Approved the County’s 2022 Family Farm Tax Credit allowances and disallowances from the Linn County Assessor’s Office
- Discussed and finalized fiscal year 2024 budget initiatives and guidelines
- Canvassed votes from the Nov. 8, 2022, general election
- Discussed fiscal year 2023 budget amendment requests and set public hearing on the proposed amended budget for December 7, 2022
- Received and placed on file Treasurer’s (Auto Dept.) report to the County Auditor receipts and disbursements for the month of October 2022
- Approved a resolution for a residential parcel split for Roberson Acres First Addition
- Approved a resolution for a residential parcel split for Taube Farms First Addition
- Approved a resolution for a land preservation parcel split for Taube Farms Second Addition
- Authorized Chair to sign 36-month lease agreements with Gordon Flesch Company Inc for copiers for the following departments: Facilities, Secondary Roads, Sheriff’s Office, Public Health, and the Treasurer’s Office.
- Approved a resolution relating to the issuance of not to exceed $8,000,000 in aggregate principal amount of Revenue Bonds (Young Men’s Christian Association of the Cedar Rapids Metropolitan Area Project) Series 2022, of Linn County, Iowa; and specifically (1) fixing a date for a public hearing on the proposal to issue said bonds; (2) directing publication of a notice of intention to issue said bonds; and (3) authorizing the execution of a Memorandum of Agreement. This is at no cost to Linn County.
- Set a public hearing date for Monday December 12, 2022, at 5:30 p.m. to establish a Secondary Road Assessment District to improve Sutton Road and Buffalo Drive with tree clearing, guardrail repair, sign replacements, 1.5" rock overlay, double seal coat with a single seal coat in 5 years at a cost of $175,546.00. The assessment district includes Sutton Road and Buffalo Drive in Sections 19, 20, 30, & 29 T86 R6.
