ICYMI: Linn County Releases FY22 Annual Report

Linn County has released its fiscal year 2022 Popular Annual Financial Report (PAFR). This report is a condensed version of the comprehensive report and is part of Linn County’s ongoing commitment to keep residents informed about how taxpayer dollars are used to fund programs and services in an easy-to-read format. The report provides easy to understand financial information and demonstrates the vital role of county government by highlighting some of Linn County’s notable accomplishments and challenges of the past year. Introducing the 2023 Linn County Board of Supervisors and Elected Officials

Newly elected District 1 Linn County Supervisor Kirsten Running-Marquardt and incumbent District 2 Supervisor Ben Rogers were sworn in to office Dec. 29, 2022, filling the two open seats for the Linn County Board of Supervisors. Rogers and Running-Marquardt will each serve a 4-year term of service. District 3 Supervisor Louis J. Zumbach is beginning year three of his 4-year term on the Board of Supervisors. The Board of Supervisors appointed Supervisor Zumbach to serve as Board chair and Supervisor Rogers to serve as vice chair for 2023. Linn County also welcomes three other new elected officials in 2023: Linn County Attorney Nick Maybanks, Linn County Recorder Carolyn Siebrecht, and Linn County Treasurer Brent Oleson. Linn County’s elected officials also include Auditor Joel Miller and Sheriff Brian Gardner. Miller and Gardner are beginning year three of their 4-year terms. New Meeting Times for the Board of Supervisors Weekly Meetings

The meeting times for the Board of Supervisors informal and formal weekly meetings is changing effective Jan. 9, 2023. The meeting days remain unchanged. The informal work sessions will be held on Mondays at 10 a.m. The formal sessions will be held on Wednesdays at 10 a.m. This change in meeting times is effective Jan. 9, 2023. Meetings are held at the Jean Oxley Linn County Public Service Center, 935 2nd St. SW in Cedar Rapids. Learn more, including how to receive meeting notices and agendas right to your inbox.

January is Radon Action Month

Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas that can cause lung cancer. You can’t see or smell radon. Testing is the only way to know your level of radon exposure, which is why you should test your home for radon. You can purchase a radon test kit at Linn County Public Health by calling 319-892-6000. Learn more about radon at epa.gov/radon.

Most Linn County Offices Closed for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day

Most Linn County governmental offices will be closed Monday, Jan. 16 in observance of the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday. Normal business hours will resume Tuesday, Jan. 17.

The following services will continue to operate:

Juvenile Detention and Diversion Services
Mental Health Access Center
Linn County LIFTS will be running abbreviated routes with no rural service.
The Sheriff’s Office will be closed; however, continuous operations will be available for routine and emergency responses. This includes the Patrol Division, Communications Division and the Correctional Center. In an emergency, always dial 911.

Vehicle registrations can be renewed online at any time at www.iowataxandtags.org.

Board of Supervisors Meeting Recap

The following is a recap from the Linn County Board of Supervisors meetings the week of Ja. 1-6, 2023. The Board of Supervisors:

Appointed Supervisor Louis J. Zumbach as Board chair and appointed Supervisor Ben Rogers as vice chair for 2023
Changed the meeting time of the Board of Supervisors work session to 10 a.m. on Mondays and changed the meeting time of the formal session meetings to 10 a.m. on Wednesdays
Approved Iowa DOT final contract construction vouchers for a bridge deck overlay on Mount Vernon Road over Wanatee Creek
Approved and authorized Chair to sign the 2022 Weed Commissioner’s Report and 2023 County Weed Commissioner Certification Form
