Linn County to Hold Public Hearing March 1 on Maximum Property Tax Levy for Fiscal Year 2024
The Linn County Board of Supervisors will hold a public hearing on March 1, 2023, at 10 a.m. to set the total maximum property tax levy for the fiscal year 2024 budget. The public hearing will be held at the Linn County Public Service Center, 935 2nd St. SW in Cedar Rapids. At the public hearing any resident or taxpayer may present objections to, or arguments in favor of, the proposed tax levy. After adoption of the proposed tax levy, the Board of Supervisors will publish notice and hold a final public hearing in March to adopt the County’s FY24 budget. Linn County Secondary Road Department Releases 2023 Maintenance Plan and 5-Year Construction Plan
The Linn County Secondary Road Department has released its maintenance plan for 2023 and the five-year construction plan for fiscal years 2024-2028. The plans outline the department’s focus on repairing and rebuilding bridges, maintaining the condition of the paved road network, improving the condition of the County’s 765+ miles of rock roads, performing preventative maintenance, and how projects are prioritized. Secondary Road Department staff present a five-year plan to the Board of Supervisors annually, per Iowa Code. Highlights from the presentation include: - Repairing or replacing 30 Linn County bridges
- Paving 26 miles of secondary roads
- Grading 25 miles of secondary roads
- Adding two roundabouts

Board of Supervisors Meeting RecapThe following is a recap from the Linn County Board of Supervisors meetings the week of Feb. 11-17, 2023. The Board of Supervisors: - Met with and received updates from the following departments: LIFTS Director Carter Baldwin, Human Resources Director Lisa Powell
- Received presentations of the 5 Year Construction Plan and Fiscal Year 2024 Maintenance for the Secondary Road Department
- Received and placed on file Treasurer’s (Auto Dept.) Report to the County Auditor Receipts and Disbursements for the Month of January, 2023
- Approved a resolution for Compensation for Attorneys Appointed by the District Court.
- Approved a resolution to establish stop regulations at numerous locations on Linn County secondary roads.
- Approved a resolution for a final plat for Eagle Trace Second Addition, case JF22-0023.
- Approved a resolution for a final plat for Hazelwood Farm First Addition, case JF23-0001.
- Approved resolutions for (1) an amendment to the terms of a Bond and Loan Agreement changing from a LIBOR index to a Secured Overnight Financing Rate (SOFR) index for setting the variable interest rate on and (2) Identifying on the books and records of Linn County, Iowa, a hedge contract with Bankers Trust Company, all with respect to Linn County, Iowa Midwestern Disaster Area Revenue Bond, Series 2010 (TEG Property I, Inc. Project)
- Authorized Chair to sign a Preliminary Plat Application for a 116.39-acre area of the Dows Farm property, located in the 600 Block of Dows Rd and the 6900 Block of Mount Vernon Rd SE
- Authorized Chair to sign Fiscal Year 2023 (IDOT) Iowa Department of Transportation Secondary Roads Five Year Program Version 1
- Authorized Chair to sign a Solid Waste Agency Charge Account Agreement to grant charge privileges to Linn County departments
- Approved Amendment Number 3 to the Professional Services Agreement between Linn County and Martin Gardner Architecture for the Linn County Secondary Roads District 1 Shop Project, by adding $12,000 to revise the Phase 2 construction documents and to rebid the Phase 2 project, and authorize Supervisor Louis Zumbach to execute the Amendment
- Authorized Chair to sign Opioid Settlement Participation Forms on behalf of Linn County for the New Opioid Settlements with Allergan, CVS, Teva, Walgreens, and Walmart.
- Authorized Chair to sign contracts for 2023 Dust Control Rock as follows:
- Crawford Quarry in the amount of $17,250.00
- Wendling Quarries, Inc. in the amount of $93,295.00
