National Voter Registration Day is September 24

National Voter Registration Day is tomorrow – September 24. Find out if you are registered in your current zip code

If you need to update your registration or register for the first time, find all available options on the Linn County Election Services web page.  
 
Registered Linn County voters will be able to participate on November 5 for the school and city elections, which are combined for the first time this year.

Available Voting Methods:  
  • In-Person Absentee “Early” voting starts Monday, October 7 at the Jean Oxley Public Service Center and runs through Monday, November 4.  
  • Vote-by-Mail, absentee ballot request forms are being accepted through Friday, October 25.    
  • Satellite voting is being offered at the Marion Public Library on Saturday, October 26 from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. and Monday through Wednesday October 28 - 30 from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Election Day in-person at your precinct polling location on from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, November 5.

Rolland Sworn in as Deputy Linn County Treasurer


Roxanne Rolland was sworn in as Deputy Linn County Treasurer September 9. She is one of four deputies in the Linn County Treasurer’s Office and replaces Deputy Sara Bearrows who recently became Linn County’s Budget Director.

The Linn County Communications Department earned five national communication and marketing awards at the City-County Communications and Marketing Association (3CMA) Annual Conference September 5 in Denver, CO.

Thielen Appointed to National Association of County Human Services Administrators Board of Directors


David Thielen, Executive Director of Linn County Community Services (LCCS), was recently appointed to the National Association of County Human Services Administrators (NACHSA) Board of Directors for the upcoming 2019/2020 year.

Thielen, was also recently re-appointed to the National Association of Counties Human Services and Education (HSE) Policy Steering Committee for the upcoming 2019/2020 year. 

Options of Linn County Receives Three-Year Accreditation


The Options of Linn County Day Habilitation Program was awarded a three-year accreditation, the highest level of acceptance, from CARF International (Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities). CARF provides accreditation services worldwide at the request of health and human service providers.

Property Taxes Due


Property tax statements were mailed the week of August 12, 2019. The deadline to pay the first half of property and mobile home taxes without penalty is Sept. 30, 2019. A penalty of one and one half percent will attach to late payments beginning Oct. 1.
Property tax payments can be made by the following methods:

  • Online at IowaTaxAndTags.org
  • Mail a check payable to Linn County Treasurer, 935 2nd St. SW, Cedar Rapids, IA 52404. Mailed payments must be post marked by the U.S. Postal Service by Sept. 30, 2019 to avoid late fees.
  • In person at the Linn County Treasurer’s Office, 935 2nd St. SW, Cedar Rapids, Monday through Friday 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. the second Thursday of every month)
  • By calling the Linn County Treasurer’s Office at 319-892-5500 Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. the second Thursday of every month)
