Dr. Percy and Lileah Harris Building Officially Opens 


More than 200 people attended the ribbon cutting to celebrate the completion and opening of Linn County’s new Dr. Percy and Lileah Harris Building on November 22.

This state-of-the-art building houses Linn County Public Health and Linn County Child and Youth Development Services. The approximately 63,000 square foot building is located at 1020 6th St. SE, Cedar Rapids near the NewBo and Oakhill Jackson neighborhoods.

Bill of Sale Required January 1

Bill of Sale Required for Transferring Vehicle Titles Beginning January 1, 2020


Effective January 1, 2020, the Linn County Treasurer’s Office will require customers to provide a bill of sale when transferring titles to motor vehicles between private parties. A bill of sale or purchase agreement is already required for vehicles purchased from a dealership.

Linn County Now Accepting Witwer Trust Grant Applications


The Linn County Board of Supervisors is accepting grant applications for the fiscal year 2020 Witwer Trust Grant Program. Eligible non-profit organizations in Linn County may apply for grant funding for projects that benefit Linn County residents. This year, $80,000 is available.
 
The application deadline is December 15, 2019.
 
The online application, eligibility requirements, and a list of frequently asked questions are available on the Linn County website at LinnCounty.org/witwer. This is a competitive grant process.
 
The grant awards are distributed from the proceeds of a trust established by Weaver Witwer, a prominent Cedar Rapids grocer and landowner who died in 1979. 

Winter Overflow Shelter Open

Emergency Winter Overflow Shelter Opens in Linn County


Linn County, the City of Cedar Rapids, and Willis Dady Homeless Services are pleased to announce the emergency winter overflow shelter opened Friday, November 15 at 6 p.m. in Linn County. 

The emergency winter overflow shelter is located in the County-owned Fillmore Building, 520 11th St. NW. The shelter will be staffed by Willis Dady and open from 6 p.m. to 8 a.m. seven days a week through March if the weather stays cold.

Linn County Offices Closed for Thanksgiving

Linn County Offices Closed for Thanksgiving Holiday


In observance of the Thanksgiving holiday, most Linn County governmental offices will be closed Thursday and Friday, Nov. 28 and 29. Regular business hours resume on Monday, Dec. 2.
 
The following services will continue to operate:

  • Juvenile Detention and Diversion Services
  • Linn County LIFTS will be closed on Thanksgiving Day Nov. 28 but will operate reduced routes in Cedar Rapids, Hiawatha, and Marion on Friday, Nov. 29 (no rural service).
  • The Sheriff’s Office will be closed; however, continuous operations will be available for routine and emergency responses. This includes the Patrol Division, Communications Division and the Correctional Center. In an emergency, always dial 911.

Distinguished Budget Presentation Award

Linn County Receives Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for 24th Consecutive Year


Linn County has received the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) for the 24th consecutive year. The award is the highest form of recognition in governmental budgeting and reflects the commitment of the Linn County governing body and staff to meeting the highest principles of governmental budgeting. 

Road Closed

Jordan’s Grove Road to Close for Bridge Replacement


Jordan’s Grove Road is scheduled to close Monday December 2, 2019 at the Wapsipinicon River for a bridge replacement project. The closure will last 7-9 months depending on weather.

A detour will be posted.
