Colonel Doug Riniker started his career with the Linn County Sheriff’s Office as a Deputy Sheriff in 1995. He worked in the Correctional Center as a Deputy Sheriff for six years before transferring to the Patrol Division. He remained in the Patrol Division for five years until being promoted to the rank of Sergeant in 2006. Once promoted, he was reassigned to the Correctional Center. In 2009, he was appointed Second Deputy with a rank of Major, overseeing the Budget, Finance, and Civil Divisions. In July 2020, he was appointed to the position of Chief Deputy with the rank of Colonel.

Colonel Riniker received his Associates of Arts degree in Police Science from Hawkeye Community College in 1994, a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from Kaplan University in 2016, and a Master of Public Administration degree from Purdue University Global in 2017. He received Certified Credible Leader (CCL) certification from the National Command & Staff College in 2017. Colonel Riniker is also a graduate of the 262nd session of the FBI National Academy and the 78th session of FBI LEEDS. 

Colonel Riniker is the recipient of the FBI-LEEDA trilogy award. He has attended numerous training courses including training from FBI-LEEDA on Supervisor Leadership, Command Leadership, Executive Leadership, and Media and Public Relations. Colonel Riniker frequently presents on the topic of active shooter training and workplace violence at local businesses and organizations.
