Major Pete Wilson has been with the Linn County Sheriff's Office since 1996 and currently serves as the Jail Administrator which oversees the daily operation of the 401 bed Correctional Center. Major Wilson started his career with the Sheriff’s Office in the Correctional Center and worked there until he transferred to the Patrol Division in 2001. He was promoted to the rank of Sergeant on May 29, 2005, where he was assigned to the Correctional Center. He was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on January 2, 2009, and served as the Assistant Jail Administrator. On May 15, 2011, Sheriff Gardner appointed him as second deputy with the rank of Major as the Jail Administrator.
Major Wilson has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal Justice from Mount Mercy College. Major Wilson is a state certified firearms instructor and has served on the Iowa State Sheriff’s & Deputies Association Jails Committee since 2017. Major Wilson has completed all four phases of the Institute for Credible Leadership Development. Major Wilson is also a Certified Jail Manager (CJM) with the American Jail Association and a Certified Jail Executive with Nation Sheriff’s Association and Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service.
