Lieutenant Mike Kasper started his career with the Sheriff’s Office as a Deputy in 1997 after receiving his Associate’s degree in Law Enforcement from Kirkwood Community College. Mike started his career working in the Correctional Center. In July 2001, he transferred to the Rescue Division, where he operated as a Deputy Sheriff and Paramedic until 2007 when he was promoted to Sergeant and assigned to the Correctional Center. In 2010, Mike was assigned to General Services, where he was responsible for purchasing, issuing and maintaining equipment and vehicles. In 2012, he was transferred to the Communications Division, where he was responsible for the daily operation of the dispatch center, including 13 tele-communicators, radio system, telephones, and computer systems, as well as, the System Administrator for the CAD (Computer Aided Dispatch) and RMS (Records Management System).
Lt. Kasper was a member of the Sheriff’s Immediate Response Unit, where he was a Chemical Munitions and Less-Lethal Instructor. He was a Firearms Instructor until his promotion to Lieutenant in 2016. He maintains certifications as a Paramedic, CPR/1st Aid instructor, Advanced Cardiac Life Support and Pediatric Advanced Life Support provider. He has received Linn County Customer Service and Teamwork Awards during his career.
Lt. Kasper is a graduate of Northwestern University’s Center for Public Safety School of Police Staff and Command. He is a four star Certified Credible Leader from the National Command and Staff College.
Mike currently oversees the Communications Division and has administrative oversight of the Rescue Division. He is the coordinator for the Department’s AED program and Opioid Overdose Treatment initiative.
